‘Water Bomb’: Pakistani Senator Highlights Affect Of India’s Indus Treaty Suspension


Amid rising issues over water shortage in Pakistan, Senator Syed Ali Zafar has urged the Shahbaz Sharif-led authorities to “defuse” the “water bomb” after India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) in response to the April 22 terror assault in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

“The Indus Basin is our lifeline,” Zafar stated, including, “This is sort of a water bomb hanging over us — we’ve to defuse it.”

Addressing the Senate, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senator warned of extreme penalties for the nation if the difficulty isn’t resolved. “If we don’t remedy this water disaster now, we may die of starvation.” 

 

 

Zafar additional emphasised that one out of each ten folks will depend on water from the Indus River system and that 90 per cent of Pakistan’s crops depend on it.

“Based on statistics, 90% of our crops rely upon this water. All our energy tasks and dams are constructed on this water. That’s why we should perceive that this is sort of a water bomb hanging over us — we’ve to defuse it, we’ve to resolve it,” he stated.

India’s determination to droop the IWT got here after the Pahalgam assault, which killed 26 folks.
