Sonam Wangchuk arrested two days after 4 killed in Ladakh violence


The arrest comes after Wangchuk’s NGO was cancelled from receiving international funding below the FCRA, with the Ministry of Dwelling Affairs (MHA) holding him answerable for instigating the mob in Leh on Tuesday.

Days after a peaceable shutdown in Leh turned violent, leaving 4 useless and over 70 injured, local weather activist Sonam Wangchuk was arrested on Friday and charged below the stringent Nationwide Safety Act (NSA) for allegedly inciting protesters demanding statehood for the Union Territory.

The arrest comes after Wangchuk’s NGO was cancelled from receiving international funding below the FCRA, with the Ministry of Dwelling Affairs (MHA) holding him answerable for instigating the mob in Leh on Tuesday with mentions of the Arab Spring and Nepal’s GenZ protests in his speech.

The agitators then went on a rampage, setting a number of automobiles and authorities buildings ablaze whereas clashing with the police and safety forces.
