NEW DELHI: The Border Safety Power (BSF) has targeted on coaching and deploying Indian breed canines alongside India’s borders, taking a cue from an episode of PM Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’. ADG and director of the BSF Academy, Tekanpur, Shamsher Singh, advised ANI, “In Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister urged folks to think about Indian breeds when adopting canines. After that, BSF began this programme to coach and breed Indian canines.““To date, we’ve educated 150 Indian breed canines and deployed them on the border. In complete, round 700 canines are deployed on the border. Twenty extra are on the breeding centre,” he added.Singh knowledgeable that the breeds being deployed had been Rampur Hound and Mudhol Hound. “They’re slim, fast, and deal with duties like leaping from heights higher than different breeds,” he mentioned.Riya, a canine bred and educated by BSF, gained the Greatest Tracker Canine award in 2024, defeating foreign-bred canines in a championship to win the Greatest Canine title, the ADG knowledgeable.In a 2020 episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, PM Modi highlighted the function of canines in catastrophe administration and rescue missions.
