KOLKATA: BJP has not fielded a single Muslim candidate within the Bengal elections, even from seats it had nominated members of the minority neighborhood in earlier state polls, regardless of having about two lakh Muslim members in its ranks within the state. It had fielded eight Muslim candidates in 2021 and three within the 2016 polls.The celebration introduced its closing candidate on Wednesday, with Rakesh Singh contesting from Kolkata Port. Ali Husain, president of Bengal BJP’s minority morcha, mentioned, “… The celebration believes duty in direction of a neighborhood doesn’t rely upon fielding candidates from that neighborhood.” Celebration seniors additional mentioned that candidates had been chosen on the premise of “winnability”, including Muslim candidates had struggled to win on BJP tickets on account of a disconnect between the celebration’s platform and the neighborhood members’ voting sample. Congress has fielded the best variety of Muslim candidates at 78, adopted by TMC with 47 and Left Entrance with 26.
