NEW DELHI: The defence ministry has inked a significant capital acquisition contract with PSU Bharat Electronics Restricted (BEL) for the procurement of two mountain radars, together with related gear and infrastructure, for the Indian Air Pressure, at a price of round Rs 1,950 crore.The set up and commissioning of those radars will increase the nation’s air defence and strengthen nationwide safety. The procurement may even cut back the dependency on overseas gear.The radars are indigenously designed and developed by DRDO’s electronics and radar growth institution, and will likely be manufactured by BEL.The contract, beneath the Purchase (Indian-indigenously designed, developed and manufactured) class, was signed within the presence of senior officers of the defence ministry and BEL on March 31. This was the final capital acquisition contract within the final monetary 12 months.
