The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) has advisable towards the institution of a greenfield worldwide airport in Puri, citing that migratory birds pose an enormous threat to flights and the proposed location is in shut proximity to the Chilika Lake, a Ramsar website and a wetland of worldwide significance.

The Odisha authorities had proposed the development of the Shree Jagannath Worldwide Airport at Puri on the bottom that there’s not sufficient land for additional enlargement of runways on the Biju Patnaik Worldwide Airport in Bhubaneswar.

The Airports Authority of India and the State authorities collectively pushed for the Puri undertaking. The Ministry of Civil Aviation had already issued website clearance certificates. The undertaking was proposed to come back up on 471.401 hectares at Sipasurubali village of Brahmagiri tehsil in Puri.
