Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday (April 11, 2026) focused one another over the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code within the poll-bound State.
“The dedication of the BJP is to implement the Uniform Civil Code. By bringing UCC within the State, we’ll finish the politics of appeasement without end,” Mr. Modi mentioned, addressing a gathering within the Muslim-dominated Jangipur space of Murshidabad district.
Ms. Banerjee strongly denounced the UCC. “They’ve spoken about UCC within the manifesto… I’ll vehemently oppose this. They’re in majority at present so they’ll go the Invoice. Once they will not be in majority tomorrow, we’ll revoke the Invoice… Free and honest elections aren’t attainable so long as they continue to be,” she mentioned.
