The inaugural assembly of the India-Brunei Joint Working Group (JWG) on Protection Cooperation was held in New Delhi on Tuesday (, marking a major step ahead in strengthening the bilateral protection partnership between the 2 nations.
Based on Ministry of Defence, key areas of debate included the growth of military-to-military exchanges and joint coaching, enhanced maritime safety cooperation with emphasis on security of sea lanes and Humanitarian Help & Catastrophe Reduction (HADR), capability constructing, and alternatives for business collaboration and know-how cooperation.
The assembly was co-chaired by Amitabh Prasad, Joint Secretary within the Ministry of Defence, and Poh Kui Choon, Deputy Everlasting Secretary in Brunei’s Ministry of Defence. Earlier than the assembly, each side signed the Phrases of Reference (ToR) to formally set up the JWG on Protection Cooperation.
The Ministry additional added that the signing of the ToR marks the beginning of a brand new part of structured protection engagement. The JWG will function an institutional platform to assessment ongoing initiatives and determine new avenues for collaboration. Each side welcomed the rising momentum of their protection ties and agreed to pursue a structured roadmap below the JWG framework.
