The Bharatiya Janta Social gathering on Wednesday (April 8, 2026) selected Kolkata strongman Rakesh Singh, an accused in a number of circumstances of violence, to contest towards senior Trinamool Congress chief Firhad Hakim from the Kolkata Port constituency proper after he was launched on bail.
Mr. Singh was launched on interim bail on Tuesday (April 7) from the Presidency Jail in Kolkata and was declared the Kolkata Port candidate. Kolkata Police had arrested him in an alleged extortion case.
