West Asia battle: India welcomes ceasefire between Iran and US

India on Wednesday (April 8, 2026) welcomed a two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran, calling for “de-escalation, dialogue, and diplomacy” to make sure lasting peace in West Asia.

“We welcome the ceasefire reached and hope that it’s going to result in lasting peace in West Asia. As we’ve repeatedly advocated earlier, de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy are important to deliver an early finish to the continuing battle,” the Ministry of Exterior Affairs (MEA) stated.

“The battle has already induced immense struggling to folks and disrupted international vitality provide and commerce networks. We count on that unimpeded freedom of navigation and international circulate of commerce would prevail by means of the Strait of Hormuz,” it stated.
