ONGC attempting to revive exploration in Cauvery delta, says farmers’ affiliation

The Tamizhaga Cauvery Vivasayigal Sangam has alleged that makes an attempt have been being made to revive the oil wells of the ONGC within the delta area from 2021 onwards.

Addressing the media at Tiruvarur on November 3, affiliation basic secretary PR Pandian mentioned the ONGC was made to withdraw its gear and different equipment from the delta area as soon as the earlier AIADMK regime declared it as a protected agricultural zone. However the ONGC began trying to revive its mission of tapping hydrocarbon and others from the wells after the regime change in 2021, he alleged.

Of late, the ONGC reportedly began convincing the native folks at Periyakudi in Tiruvarur district the place it had ascertained an enormous hydrocarbon reserve. The native folks have been lured with self-employment affords and others.

The affiliation urged the Tamil Nadu authorities to make sure the safety of agricultural operations within the delta area and never permit such actions.
