UGC kinds fact-finding panel to probe Nepalese college students’ suicide circumstances at KIIT in Bhubaneswar

The College Grants Fee (UGC) on Friday shaped a fact-finding committee to look into consecutive pupil suicides at KIIT-Bhubaneshwar. The UGC in a press release stated that the panel was constituted after a 20-year-old Nepalese pupil of the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Expertise (KIIT) in Odisha’s Bhubaneswar was discovered hanging from the ceiling fan of her hostel room.

“UGC has constituted a Truth-Discovering Committee underneath the Chairmanship of Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Former VC, IGNOU to look into the scholars’ suicide circumstances at KIIT, Bhubaneswar and recommend measures to forestall such incidents in future,” stated UGC Secretary Manish Joshi.

Following the demise of a Nepali pupil at Odisha’s Kalinga Institute of Industrial Expertise (KIIT), the Nepal Embassy in New Delhi expressed condolences and stated that they have been coordinating with India’s Ministry of Exterior Affairs (MEA), Odisha authorities, police and the college for a “thorough investigation.”

 

Sharing a put up on X, the Nepal Embassy wrote, “Deeply saddened by the tragic demise of Nepali pupil Prisha Sah at KIIT, Odisha. Heartfelt condolences to her household.”
