Duchess of KentĀ  Katharine has died on the age of 92, Buckingham Palace introduced on Friday. In a press release, the Palace mentioned she “handed away peacefully final evening at Kensington Palace, surrounded by her household”. The flag at Buckingham Palace has been lowered to half-mast.

Katharine, the Duchess of Kent, was the oldest member of the Royal Household and the spouse of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, a primary cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

She was a well-recognized determine on the Wimbledon tennis championships, usually presenting trophies and comforting gamers, most notably consoling a tearful Jana Novotna in 1993.
