The federal government has revamped the Nationwide Safety Advisory Board amid tensions over the Pahalgam terror assault, appointing former intelligence chief Alok Joshi as its chairman.
Mr Joshi, who has earlier headed the Analysis and Evaluation Wing (R&AW) – the nation’s premier spy company, will lead the seven-member board comprising retired officers from the armed forces, police service, and international service.
Former Western Air Commander Air Marshal PM Sinha (retd), former Southern Military Commander Lt Gen AK Singh (retd), and Rear Admiral Monty Khanna (retd) are among the many retired officers from the army companies now a part of the board.
Two retired officers from the Indian Police Service (IPS) – Rajiv Ranjan Verma and Manmohan Singh – and B Venkatesh Varma, a retired officer from the Indian Overseas Service, are additionally a part of the revamped board.
